Mangaluru, Dec 28: Scary but true. As many as 22 people have died in one extension of the city. The worried residents sought divine intervention and formed a welfare forum. They approached an astrologer and arranged ‘Prashne’ ritual.
According to the answer that was arrived at during the ritual, Karmika Colony was actually called as Mahakali from times immemorial. Later on, it got changed to Makali, Shaktinagara, Padavu, Kanadka etc and ended up with the present title of Karmika colony. The astrologer also said that the colony has the holy shrine of Mahakali and also many sages have meditated in the area for long time.
The astrologer further said that Karmika colony was a dense forest. Macchendranath had meditated in the place and the same was continued by Go Rakshakanatha. As the time passed, the power of meditation reduced and the families that lived in the area had to see loss of life and hardships. Now people of the area are holding Ashtamangala Prashne and also other religious rituals.
