Mangaluru, Dec 22: Notification for state assembly elections will be announced soon. As a prelude, ticket aspirants of BJP, Congress and JD(S) are active in their respective constituencies. In addition to availability of tickets, discussion is held with regards to the winning horse among the voters.
When it comes to the north constituency of Dakshina Kannada, it is almost sure that sitting MLA Bharat Shetty will contest from BJP. Though two or three names of strong aspirants are making rumours for Congress, it is heard that voters are showing more affection towards former MLA Mohiuddin Bawa.
The defeat of Bawa in the last assembly elections has made the local congress leadership and Congress workers to rethink their strategy. This is seen by the grand welcome that he is getting throughout his constituency. As per them by communal agenda of opposition only the MLA who worked day and night for the development of the constituency was defeated. Many leaders and members of the party have publicly expressed this view in public functions and programmes. In the wake of this it is assumed that the members will prefer Bawa this time around and work for them fully. This has given new hope to the Congress party also.
Though a former MLA, Bawa was the voice of the people of the constituency in the past five years, with many pro-people works. He was successful in responding to the woes of people and instilling in them the feeling that he is their real MLA.
Even now people of constituency always remember Bawa during their difficult times. Voters have come to know that the defeat of Bawa, who moves around the constituency 24x7, is a great loss for them.
During the period when Bawa was the MLA of Mangaluru North constituency, the development of the area was unique. Bawa saw that every street got water and electricity. In addition, people still remember the service of Bawa with gratitude in providing them necessary bridges, quick government services regardless of caste or religion or political affiliation.
Bawa says, “Congress party always gives priority to democracy. When it is elections, ticket aspirants must be there. Congress party gives opportunity to present the aspirants their wish to contest in front of senior leaders of the party. This means that the aspirants of ticket in Congress party are supporters of Congress and not competitors among them.
“It is possible for me to keep close contact with the voters of Mangaluru north constituency as a Congress worker, leader and former MLA. The party leadership also knows the same. I am duty bound to increase the pace of development of the Mangaluru north constituency which stopped five years ago. I have the blessings and support of local Congress workers,” says Bawa.
Whatever be the case, it is felt that the Mangaluru north constituency congress workers are eagerly waiting for the re-election and leadership of Mohiuddin Bawa. The only question that remains is the margin of victory. For this one has to wait till the elections get over.
