Riyadh, May 23 (AFP) Ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has announced they had suspended mediation efforts in Yemen, after the country's president failed to sign a transition deal for him to quit office.
The GCC had "decided to suspend their initiative in the absence of the propitious conditions," said a statement issued from Riyadh yesterday.
Gulf foreign ministers made the decision after a meeting to discuss the crisis in Yemen, where President Ali Abdallah Saleh yesterday backed off from the transition deal a day after his ruling party had signed up to it.
