Dubai, Dec 9: The 5th Annual Dubai Dasara Sports Fest and Cultural Fest with the theme state festival in Arab State on the auspicious occasion of a world Famous Mysuru Dasara were conducted on November 27 at Etisalat Sports Academy, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Arjuna Award Winner Indian Hockey Star S V Sunil graced the event as chief guest.
The annual event aiming to promote Kannada culture, language and sports inviting Kannadigas all across seven Emirates saw grand and jubilous attendance enjoying over 15 hours of fun, participation and celebration.
Sunil inaugurated the event with crowd hailing the sporting hero. Olympic torch parade walk was led by former Indian International Cricketer Smitha Harikrishna and international wrestler Vaishnavi. UAE National Anthem, Indian National Anthem, Karnataka State Anthem lifted the spirit of the joyous crowd.
Every year Hemmeya UAE Kannadigaru team has been felicitating a Kannadiga sportsmen who has made the state and country proud in international sport. The Dubai Kreeda Ratna Award, specially designed model with UAE National Bird Falcon was awarded to the Indian Hockey Star Arjuna Award winner and proud Kannadiga Somwarpet Vittalacharya Sunil to the thumping clapping, cheer of the assembled crowd.
The guests Mohammad Mustafa, president HUK & MD Msquare Engineering, Harneet Singh, platinum Sponsors ELV projects, Gold Sponsors Ravi, SM Real Estate & Kushi Developers, Dr Rashmi Reva laser Medical graced the inauguration.
The event across different categories for kids and adults comprising athletics, kabaddi, volleyball, throw ball, football, kabaddi and cultural competitions with Rangoli, Kannada prose writing, antyakshari, Kannada Quiz were held successfully. Kavigosti (Kannada Poetry recitation) enthralled the audience.
Student Excellence award were handed over to the meritorious NRI Kannada students of 10th Grade and PUC. The Karnataka spokespersons residing in UAE who have represented the state at National and international competitions were honoured with NRI sportsperson recognition. Videos of the the HUK team's Covid relief work and Dubai Dasara theme song were released.
After the successful completion of all sports the winners were given Gold Silver Bronze medals, team trophies and certificates by Sunil, HUK Main organizing members, sponsors and subcommittee members.
The event was led by president Sudeep Davanagere, general secretary Shankar Belagavi, chief coordinator Rafiqali Kodagu, ex president Mamatha Raghavendra, Committee members Pallavi Davanagere, Hadiya mandya, Vishnu Murthy Mysuru, Madhu Davanagere, Anitha Bengaluru, Dr Savitha Mysuru, Mohiudin Hubballi, Varadaraj Kolara, Akram Kodagu.
The sports fest was anchored by Vishnu Murthy Mysuru along with Shwetha nadig and Swathi Sriharsha. Cultural competitions were compered by Mamatha Raghavendra along with Chethana Shekar.
