Mangalore, May 19: The Congress leaders of twin districts, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi held a protest demanding dissolution of state government on Thursday May 19.
In Mangalore, the Congress leaders staged a dharna in front of the deputy commissioner's to protest against the BJP rule in the state. At this dharna, protestors urged to dissolve the government as too many corruption allegations have been levelled against the party and Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. However during the protest as many as 20 local leaders were present, while very less number of party workers were seen.
KPCC secretary Ivan D’Souza said that the BJP-led state government has overlooked the sincerity in administration and engaged in neck deep corruption. Only implementation of president’s rule in the state will be the solution to end chaos. He also urged the centre to accept the governor’s report and to initiate a CBI probe into the alleged corruption cases.
Congress leader G A Bawa accused BJP leaders of confusing the people with various political playoffs.
Leaders Shashidhar Hegde, Ibrahim Kodijal, Ashraf, Mamatha Gatti, Lancy Lot Pinto, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Suresh Ballal, T K Sudheer, Moideen Bawa and Sevadala leaders, activists were present.
Road Blockade in Udupi
The party activists of District Congress Committee staged a road blockade at the intersection of Karavali Bypass Road and national highway 17, here urging the Governor to dissolve the BJP led state administration.
The agitators burnt the effigy of CM B S Yeddyurappa, Eshwarappa, legislative assembly speaker K G Bopaiah and minister Shobha Karandlaje on the occasion.
The traffic on NH 17 and main streets was disrupted for nearly half-an-hour, owing to the road blockade by DCC party activists.
DCC president Gopal Poojary, former state minister Vasant Salian, former MP Manorama Madhwaraj, Udupi block Congress committee president Pramod Madhwaraj, Brahmavar block Congress committee president Birti Rajesh Shetty, Amarnat Shenoy and taluk panchayat member Sunitha Shetty and others were arrested by the town police and released later.
Over 200 DCC party activists were present.
