Udupi, Nov 16: The Indian women won the Indo-Nepal throwball championship that was held at Nepal recently. Three players from the district were the members of the winning Indian team.
Five countries had participated in the throwball championship that was held at Nepal on November 12 and 13.
Shamitha and Dhanya, natives of Shirva in Kaup and Rashmi, native of Mudarangadi were in the Indian team. Among the three, Shamitha was selected directly to the national level after participating in the state level competition.
India won the gold in the championship in which Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Malaysia also had competed. Vinayak and Rudresh were the trainers of the Indian team.
In the final, Nepal won the first set with 25-20. However, India made a strong comeback with 25-15 and 25-18 in the second and thirds sets thereby clinching the championship.
Saundarya was the best player of the final while Shamitha won the best smasher award.
