Bantwal: Teenager dies of lightning strike, family has narrow escape

Bantwal, Nov 15: A teenager died due to lightning strike here on Tuesday, November 15.

The deceased is identified as Karthik (16), son of Sanur Padav resident Ganesh Adidravida.

The family members were sleeping after dinner at about 9 pm on Nov 14 at their residence at Sanur Padav when heavy rains coupled with lightning started at 9.30 pm. As they felt as if they came into contact with live electric cable, they got up and rushed to the hall. However, Karthik who could not get up was struck by lightning and rushed to a clinic at Kaikamba. He was later shifted to the Wenlock hospital but the doctors declared him "brought dead."

A case in this connection is registered at Bantwal rural police station.

    Till date lightening voltage is not measured and impossible to measure, but assumed millions of volt per strike. There is not 100% protection available or made for lightening strike. Even inside building or out side, but severity of lightening strike can be minimized by providing "good lightening earthing system" for the house/building.
