Mangaluru, Nov 8: Police and district food department officials raided Bala near Surathkal where kerosene was being mixed with aviation petrol and confiscated petrol worth lac of rupees, two tankers, pick up and other equipment.
Two tankers worth Rs 40 lac, one pick up worth Rs 12 lac, 16,000 litres of ATF petrol worth lac of rupees, drums and one generator were confiscated.
On definite information, the officials and cops raided the spot near Ottekayar bend on Monday November 7 evening and found a secret underground tank. Petrol from two tankers was filled into the underground tank and the tankers were filled with kerosene mixed with other chemicals. The accused escaped from the spot.
Earlier, IGP Sathyanarayana had conducted midnight raid in 2012 and unearthed this adulteration business and put an end to it. However, petrol adulteration is rampant now in surrounding areas of Mangaluru city. Only a few cases are coming to light.
