Bantwal, Oct 31: BJP candidate Appi has won with a margin of 83 votes the Navoor gram panchayat by election. Congress candidates have been winning the seat in Devashyapadur ward since the last 20 years.
Out of 1,070 votes in the ward, Appi received 475 votes while Congress candidate Sumitra Mohan received 392 votes. Five votes were invalid. A total of 872 votes were cast this time.
The seat had remained vacant after the demise of Congress candidate Jyothi.
The elections were conducted by assistant horticulture officer Dinesh in the presence of assistant tahsildar Navin Benjanapadav. The votes were counted with gram panchayat development officer Sudhamani as assistant election officer.
