Mangalore, May 9: Abhinav Kumar Sharma (20), a native of Bihar, was arrested by the policemen on Sunday May 8. He has been accused of trying to steal and smuggle out a star tortoise from Pilikula Nisargadhama.
Sharma had visited Nisargadhama, located on the outskirts of the city, on Sunday morning. After visiting enclosures where various animals are kept, he was about to return home. At that time, he removed a star tortoise from its enclosure and placed it inside a cloth bag he was carrying with him, it is said. Security staff of the Nisargadhama named Dayanand, who saw this act, stopped him and found a tortoise tucked in Sharma’s bag.
The man was handed over to the policemen of Kavoor police station. He was produced before the magistrate at night.
