Chitradurga: Murder Accused Remanded to Seven Days Police Custody


Chitradurga, May 7 (PTI) A criminal arrested recently in Karnataka in connection with 27 murders in Tamil Nadu was today remanded to seven-days police custody, police said.

"Since it was a holiday yesterday, he had to be remanded to judicial custody. We sought police custody as we needed to interrogate him," police said.

The accused, Jaishankar, was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class at Hiriyur, 50 km from here.

Jaishankar, who was also wanted in eight rape cases in Karnataka, was taken into custody by Zalaki police in Elagi village in Bijapur, three days ago.

He had given the slip to a Tamil Nadu police team while being escorted back to Coimbatore jail on March 18 and had been roaming in Tumkur and Chitradurga in Karnataka for the last 45 days.

He was identified by a Tamil Nadu police team on May 5.
