Mangalore, May 7: Seva Dal activists paid floral tributes to Seva Dal founder Narayana Subbarao Hardekar on his birth anniversary at District Congress office on Saturday May 7.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA U T Khader recalled the services of Hardekar, who under the influence of Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Lala Lajpat Rai formed the Seva Dal at the Kakinada session of the Indian National Congress in 1923. He was elected twice to the Rajya Sabha between 1952 and 1962 and awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1958, he said.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Ivan D’Souza spoke on the need to take Seva Dal to the booth level so that the Congress party will be strengthened.

The members garlanded the portrait of Hardekar on the occasion.
