Udupi, Oct 24: Thieves broke open a house at Barkur here on October 22 and decamped with valuables worth Rs 1.5 lacs.
The theft occurred in the residence of S R Uday Kumar, Barkur, Brahmavar.
Uday Kumar was away in Bengaluru while his wife and son had gone to the house of his elder sister at Garadi Majalu. The younger brother had dinner in the residence of Uday Kumar at about 9 pm, locked the front door and went to sleep in the room of his cycle shop.
Uday Kumar returned home at about 5.10 AM on October 23 and was trying to unlock the door when he found the door partially open. Uday Kumar who grew suspicious entered the house and found to his horror that the almirah was opened and ransacked. The clothes from it were scattered on the floor.
Two gold chains weighing 1.5 sovereigns, a gold pendant with green crystals weighing 0.75 sovereign, a pearl chain weighing one sovereign, a pair of gold bangles weighing 1.5 sovereigns all worth about Rs 1.5 lacs were missing.
A case under crime registration No. 176/2022 section 457 and 380 is registered at Brahmavar police station in this connection.
