Mangaluru, Oct 22: Deepavali, the festival of lights was celebrated with much joy and fervour at the Karavali Group of Colleges here on Saturday, October 22, with lecturers and students coming together to burst crackers and exchange greetings besides rejoicing.
S Ganesh Rao, founder president, G R Education Trust and Karavali Group of Colleges, inaugurated the celebration by lighting the lamp.
In his inaugural address S Ganesh Rao said, "There are many stories on Deepavali celebrations. But wherever it is celebrated people light the diyas and use colours with the message of joy and happiness. Light symbolises knowledge and positivity. By learning from one another and living together we can gain knowledge. The positive things help us to keep away from all the bad habits, sickness and failures. It will bind us without any communal, caste and religion-based discrimination. This Deepavali may bring light in everyone's lives and keep us united."
Heads of various departments and students celebrated the festival in the college a day ahead so that students could themselves be home to celebrate the festival which falls on Monday October 24.
The college was decorated with traditional ‘diyas’ and students performed various cultural programmes. The night sky was lit up with myriad colours of fireworks.
