Belgaum: Six Members of Nomadic Tribe Hacked to Death

Belguam, May 5 (PTI): In a ghastly incident, six members, including a three-month old infant, belonging to a nomadic tribe were hacked to death over alleged dowry dispute in the district.

The victims hailing from Hakki-Pakki tribal community were attacked with lethal weapons while they were asleep in Jalikoppa village late last night, police said today.

The deceased belonging to the nomadic tribe of Hakki-Pakki community from Hubli were identified as Bayisenbai (55), Bachotibai (50), Githabai (45), Kamtebai (30), Pappubai (20) and a three-month old child, yet to be identified.

Mukesh, who married Shappubai did not pay dowry as required by the tribal custom which resulted in a bitter disupte between the two families. As a result, Shappubai left Mukesh and started living with her parents.

Enraged at this, Mukesh along with three others went to Shappubai house and hacked her family members, including her father, to death and fled the scene, police said.
