Udupi, May 4: Bannanje Babu Amin awards, being given to persons with distinguished contributions to the field of Tulu folklore, have been announced. For the year 2010-11, Dr Palatady Ramakrishna Achar has been chosen for the ‘Janapada Scholar’ award, while folklore artiste, Shankar Pambada Tonse has been chosen for the ‘Janapada Artiste’ award.
These awards are given annually by Kemmalaje Janapada Prakashana, a publication firm.
Dr Paltady has been selected for the award, in recognition of his immense contribution to the field of Tulu folklore in the form of over 20 of his published works including essays, research essays, and verses. Shankara Pambada gets the award for his service to the field of art. Pambada has been serving the cause of traditional Daivaradhane field of Tulunadu by serving as the Kolakatta artiste since the last several decades.
The award carries Rs 10,000 in cash, citation, and memento, a release from the organization said.
