Udupi, May 4: Deputy commissioner P Hemalata advised the district level officers to check on their preparedness to efficiently curb any natural calamities that will arise during the monsoon season.
DC Hemalata was addressing the district level officers during the natural disasters preparedness committee, held at district headquarters here on Wednesday May 4.
She urged the chief executive officers of both TP and ZP, to convene a meeting with village secretary at the earliest, to work on preparedness to curb natural disasters.
The municipal commissioner said that natural disasters-prone areas are being identified in the taluk. And a plan has been prepared to efficiently manage the natural calamities.
The officers were also directed the fisheries department and tahsildars, in order to provide the list of divers to the district administration. Besides the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) was informed to provide the list of earthmovers in order to clear the trees that collapse on the road during torrential rains and recover the sunken boats.
DC Hemalata also advised the district health officers to take early measures on educating the people on water-borne diseases arising during major floods.
The plantation department officials were advised to provide detailed information on the loss of crops due to incessant rains besides to stock seedlings and chemical fertilizers.
Home Guards personnel are on standby duty, while the assistance of Red Cross, fire brigade and Coast Guard were being sought to view the water levels at the vented dam built by minor irrigation department.
The drainage around Malpe locality needs to be cleaned to avoid flash floods. Tebma Shipyard located in the neighbourhood also offered the services of diving experts in any eventualities during monsoon.
District officials Pranesh Rao, Kundapura sub division officer Sadashiv Prabhu and others were present.
