Udupi: Be Ready to Handle Monsoon Eventualities - DC to Officials

Udupi, May 4: Deputy commissioner (DC) of the district, P Hemalata, called upon the district level officials to be in readiness to handle any untoward eventualities that may arise during the coming rainy season. She was speaking after presiding over a precautionary meeting of officials for handling natural calamities. The meeting was held at the auditorium of the DC’s office.

She instructed the officials to conduct a meeting of taluk level officials including tahsildars, executive officers of the taluk panchayats, and secretaries of gram panchayats, to brief them about the precautions and preparedness needed to handle eventualities arising out of rainy season.

Town municipal commissioner, Gokuldas Nayak, said that the areas located around the town, which normally get flooded during the monsoon season have been identified, and a plan to handle natural calamities has been drawn up. The DC instructed the tahsildars and fisheries department to furnish lists of expert divers to her office. She also asked the regional transport officials to identify the trees that face the risk of falling on the roads during the rainy season, and to remove them in advance, besides preparing a list of backhoe and crane operators for emergency operations.

Additional DC, T M Prabhakar, assistant superintendent of police, Venkateshappa, deputy secretary of the zilla panchayat, Pranesh Rao, Kundapur sub-divisional officer, Sadashiva Prabhu, and other officials were present.
