Udupi, May 4: T D Narasimhaiah, working as an assistant commissioner in the muzrai department here, would have retired on May 31 this year, and led a peaceful life, if everything had gone well. However, through a judgment delivered by the third additional district and special court in Mysore on Monday May 2, he was sentenced to a year of rigorous punishment. In addition, a fine of Rs 10,000 was also imposed on him.
Narasimhaiah was found guilty of charges levelled against by the Lokayukta. It is alleged that when he was working at Mysore in 2006, he had received a bribe of Rs 10,000 from those working as sweepers in Dasoha Bhavana of Chamundeshwari Temple there. The Lokayukta policemen had undertaken investigation, and filed charge sheet in the court in 2008.
Commenting on the development, district in-charge minister, Dr V S Acharya, who also holds the portfolio of muzrai, said that he was not aware that the official named above was facing a probe. However, he said he knew that he was not very efficient in his work, and thought that it was because of the fact that he was on the verge of retirement.
District deputy commissioner, Hemalata, said her office is yet to receive any information about the punishment awarded to the official. As Narasimhaiah was on leave, he could not be contacted.
