Mangalore: Angry Mob Vandalizes Labour Union’s Office

Mangalore, May 4: Relating to the incident in which a school girl, who was participating in cultural programmes organized as part of Labour Day celebrations on Sunday May 1 at the office of a bidi workers union at Kuppepadavu near here was killed by a speeding vehicle, an angry mob of  locals and relatives of the girl in question, ransacked the office of the union on Tuesday May 3. A complaint in this connection was filed with the Bajpe police station.

It may be recalled that Divya (8), daughter of Nagesh, a labourer residing at Acharyjora, who was participating in the programme, was killed by a jeep. After her first dance performance, she had changed her costumes, and was crossing the road to reach the dais for her second performance of the day, when the tragedy had occurred. She could not be saved, although she was rushed to a hospital in Moodbidri immediately thereafter.

Allegedly, agitated over the incident and alleging negligence on the part of the organizers of the programme, father of the deceased girl, his relatives, and some local people gathered together and vandalized the said office. A case was registered in this connection by the Bajpe policemen on Tuesday.
