Bantwal, May 3: The members of the town council urged the councillor to take swift legal action against those who have encroached on government land and built unauthorized buildings, during the general body meeting held here on Tuesday May 3.

The members—Ramakrishna Alva and Mohammed Sharief–drew the attention of the town council to the need for legal action against the owners of unauthorized buildings on encroached government land. They have built either by extending or deviating from the original plan approved by the concerned authorities.

Town councillor Dinesh Bhandary chaired the meeting.

Town council chief officer R Jattanna said that the council has to take a decision about legal action against those who encroached on government land by revoking the building license.

Suresh Kulal, Ravi Melkar, and others urged the town council to save the poor occupants while taking legal action on encroached property.

It was decided to empower the chief office to take legal action against the encroachers. Riyaz Hussein sought an explanation from the chief officer over not implementing the plastic ban that has been enforced in the district already.

Deputy councillor Janaki Gopal, steering committee president Vasanti Gangadhar, B Yashodha, Bhaskar Tailor, Mohammed Nandarabettu, Srinivas Malli, Mohammed Iqbal, Aminabhishek, Meenakshi, and others participated in the discussions.

The town council approved the road broadening work to enable smooth traffic under the jurisdiction of the town council.  It was decided to write to the deputy commissioner to undertake the work at the earliest.
