Bantwal, May 2: BJP activists led by zilla panchayat former member Tungappa Bangera staged a protest at Panemangalore toll gate here on Monday May 2 against mistreatment by the toll gate employees.

BJP activists staged the protest alleging misbehaviour by toll gate employees against Tungappa Bangera who was driving his car from Kalladka to B C Road on Sunday May 1.  

As the news spread, national highway officials arrived at the spot and instructed the toll gate personnel to behave politely with automobile drivers and passengers.

Bantwal town police personnel provided security during the protest.

Bantwal Urban Development Authority chairman Govind Prabhu, taluk panchayat vice-president Dinesh Amtoor, and taluk panchayat member Ramesh Kudumeru were also present on the occasion.

The protesters also urged the national highway authorities to discontinue collection of toll charges and the officers informed them that the attention of the union government will be drawn to the matter.

The traffic on the Mangalore – Bangalore NH 48 was stalled for many hours due to the protest.
