Udupi, Oct 9: The district additional and sessions POCSO fast track special court sentenced Kishan (27) who was proven guilty of sexually harassing a minor girl and her sister. Justice Srinivasa Suvarna pronounced the verdict.
The incident occurred in Kota in 2015. Convict Kishan was employed in a hotel. When the minor girl was going home after her college, he dragged her away and sexually harassed her. Later he waylaid the sister of the victim also but she managed to escape. A case was registered in Kota police station.
The then PSI Kabbalraj had filed a chargesheet in the court. In total, 10 witnesses out of 12 deposed before the court. As the witness of both the victims was complementary to the prosecution, the judge convicted Kishan.
The accused was sentenced to one month in prison, two years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 1000 in fine. For threatening, the accused was awarded one year RI under section IPC 506 and for sexually harassing minor, one year RI under POCSO and slapped a fine of Rs 1000. The judge also instructed the government to provide Rs 5000 as compensation to the victim.
