Kasargod, May 2: In an incident that occurred at Kaviyoor of Pathanamthitta district in the state on Friday last, a carpenter killed his wife by slicing her throat with the help of a chisel. Later, he cut his own throat with the same chisel and committed suicide.

Neelakanthan Achary (74) murdered his wife, Tagamma (56) at his residence in Mundiyappalli Valiyaparambil under Kaviyoor panchayat. The couple used to stay with their son. After his son left for work, Neelakanthan reportedly confined his wife, Tangamma, in a room before killing her. It is said that some family quarrels had enraged Achary.

As Tangamma raised an alarm, her daughter-in-law, rushed to the room. Neelakanthan closed the doors of the room before she could enter it, and then cut his own neck with the same chisel, and fell lifeless in a pool of blood. The doors of the room were later broken open with the help of neighbours, who found two bodies on the floor soaked with blood, policemen said.
