Shimoga, May 2: In an incident that occurred at Gama village of Shikaripur taluk in the district on Sunday May 1, a person named Munir (38) from Issur village lost his life, while Nagaraj (28) from Gama village, and Raghu (16) from Issur village, sustained grievous injuries.
The three had visited a plantation after obtaining information that a tiger had been sighted there. They were trying to scout for the tiger and drive it away, when the animal pounced upon them suddenly. Munir died while being shifted to Shikaripur hospital, while Nagaraj, who was gravely injured, was shifted to Manipal after providing first aid at Shikaripur. He is in need of advanced treatment. Raghu is being treated in Shikaripur government hospital.
As the local forest department and police officials failed to nab the tiger which was hiding, forest officials from Shimoga were summoned. They surrounded the spot where the tiger was hiding, and injected anaesthesia, after which the tiger fell unconscious. It was taken to Tyavarekoppa Lions Park near here later. MP, B Y Raghavendra, CADA president, Shekharappa, zilla panchayat member, Issur Basavaraj, and other leaders remained on the scene till the tiger was caught, and then proceeded to the house of Munir to console the grieving family members.
