Mangalore: Palemar Promises to Look into Potters’ Problems

Mangalore, May 2: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, J Krishna Palemar, promised to take up with the government their demand for the formation of a separate corporation for their welfare, by segregating Kumbha Kalabhivriddhi Board, from its present parent body, D Devaraj Urs Backward Classes Development Corporation.

He was speaking after participating in the state level Kumbar/Kulal women and youth convention held in the city on Sunday May 1, under the aegis of the State Potters Federation and women’s wing.

Palemar said that the BJP, after coming to power, had fashioned several schemes for the upliftment of potters, and encouraging pottery, terra cotta art, etc. He called upon the potters to shed their inferiority complex and continue to follow their traditional art.

MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, who inaugurated the convention, hailed potters for treating work as worship, and retaining Hindu culture and refinement in their lives. He promised to lay emphasis on creating a separate corporation for furthering their interests.

In his keynote address, Kumbara Mahasangha state president, Shivakumar Chowdashetty, demanded housing schemes and loans for potters on the lines of fishermen.  Sri Mohandas Paramahamsa Swamiji of Sridhama Manila delivered benedictory address. Honorary president of Kumbara Mahasangha, Dr M V Kulal Kundapur, presided.

Assembly deputy speaker, N Yogish Bhat, MLC, Kota Srinivas Pooojary, MLAs, Lalaji Mendon, U T Khader, S Angara, B Ramanath Rai, Abhaychandra Jain, chairman of Coastal Development Authority, B Nagaraj Shetty, and various others participated as chief guests.
