Beltangady, May 2: A motor bike rider named Chandrashekhar Poojary (35) was killed in a collision between his two-wheeler and a KSRTC bus near Lord Shanishwara Temple in Kashibettu, Laila village in the taluk, on Sunday May 1.
Chandrashekhar was the son of Katta Jainnappa Poojary alias Neelayya Poojary from Malebettu, Koyyur village near here. He used to attend to the work of welding and lathe in a garage near the town panchayat here. Sunday being a holiday, he was going to Ujire for some work. Reportedly, he was trying to overtake a truck at Kashibettu, when his vehicle collided with a government bus moving towards Hubli, which came from the opposite direction. The bus, because of this sudden turn of events, deviated from the road, crossed the drain, and hit a mud wall, but for which it would have tumbled down and resulted in more casualties.
In the accident, the bike rider’s body was tossed away, and his helmet was crushed, eyewitnesses said. Chandrashekhar had married about nine years ago. He is survived by wife, two sons, and a daughter.
Beltangady sub-inspector of police, B G Subbapooramutt, rushed to the spot, registered a case, and took up investigation.
