Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 4: In the twin districts 100 girl students have discontinued their education in first PUC and four in second PU. This includes 89 girl students of Dakshina Kannada (DK) and 15 from Udupi.
In total, 1010 girl students discontinued their PU education in the state in the academic year 2021-22 due to various reasons including hijab row.

In the statistics for both districts, 48 from Mangaluru, six from Beltangady, 17 from Bantwal, 14 from Puttur, five from Udupi, one from Karkala and nine from Kundapur have discontinued their education in first PU. Three girls of Mangaluru and one from Beltangady have also discontinued their studies in second PU.
It is not yet known whether these students have taken readmission in 2022-23 or will write examination privately. It cannot be said that all have discontinued studies because of Hijab row. There might be other reasons also as per the sources of PU department.
In the meantime, survey is also carried out on the children of primary and secondary schools who have discontinued their education after coronavirus pandemic. In total, 652 students have left the school, out of which 348 are re admitted. Most of the children are from the migrant worker community. As they discontinue studies due to work related issues and get their children admitted in other areas, the department is not able to keep track of such students according to sources of education department.
