Beltangady, Apr 30: State minister for labour, B N Bache Gowda, revealed that the government proposes to set up skills academy in the state with its headquarters in Bangalore. He added that residential training along with scholarships will be provided at the proposed academy.
He was speaking on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Venur here on Friday April 29.
The minister stated that a sum of three crore rupees had been released to 36 industrial training institutes in the state, considering them as ‘centres of excellence’, and that 72 institutions had been given Rs 2.5 crore as PPP model grant. “The government plans to provide employment to ten lac people in five years through human resource development department,” he added.
Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Hegde, who presided over the programme, felt that an education that teaches how to live is more important than others. He asserted that imbibing modern knowledge while providing training is very important.
Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, participated as the chief guest of the function. Hemavati V Heggade released the souvenir, ‘Rajata Chintana’ brought out on the occasion.
M R Jain, Sadanand Poojary, Umesh K, Sanat Kumar, and Seetu, who have served the institution for 25 long years, were felicitated on the occasion. SDM Education Society secretary, Harshendra Kumar, MLA, K Vasant Bangera, Dr M Mohan Alva Moodbidri, and several others were present.
SDM Group of Educational Institutions secretary, Dr B Yashovarma, welcomed. Principal of the ITI, Sadanand Poojary, presented the report. Training officer, Vishweshwar Prasad, presented the programme. Shiva Rao proposed vote of thanks.
