Mangaluru, Oct 2: District in-charge minister Sunil Kumar inaugurated the Rajaji park and an underpass for pedestrians as part of Smart City project near the Town Hall in the city on Sunday, October 2.
As the Town Hall is located in the heart of the city, hundreds of vehicles use this road. Therefore, people, particularly senior citizens were finding it hard to cross over to the other side of the road. This project was drawn to help them to reach the other side of the road.
The underpass is 365 metres long and 11.5 metres wide. People who would want to go to the central railway station, mini Vidhana Soudha, tahsildar's office, Lady Goschen, Market etc will benefit from the underpass.
Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Mayor Jayanand Anchan, Deputy Mayor Poornima, former mayor Premananda Shetty, Divakar Pandeshwar, standing committee president Shakeela Kava, Kishore Kottari, Nayana Kotian, Hemalatha Raghu Salian, Additional deputy Commissioner Krishna Murthy, MCC commissioner Akshay Shridhar, Police Commissioner N Shashikumar, DCP law and order Anshu Kumar, ACP P A Hegde, Managing director Smart City Prashanth Kumar Mishra and others were present.
