Mangaluru, Sep 24: Saree worth Rs eight lac, made of golden border for Goddess Sharada in the city, is manufactured by family of renowned Shehnai magician Ustad Bismillah Khan, which resides near Gyanvyapi in Varanasi.
Every year, on the last day of Navarathri festival, saree having silver border is worn around the statue of Goddess Sharada. A donor of city contributes the expense of the saree every year. The embroidery work of the saree is made by a family that resides near Gyanvyapi mandir in Varanasi. The present generation is the fifth one that is manufacturing the saree this year according to Manju Nireshwalya, media coordinator of Sharada Mahotsava committee.
Only the family of Ustad Bismillah Khan knows the intrinsic embroidery work that is drawn from silver and gold on sarees including Banaras ones. Throughout India saree for Goddess and diamond laced cloth put on the pedestal of God are procured from this family.
On the occasion of centenary celebration of Goddess Sharada in the city, committee and devotees will offer golden ornaments weighing 200 sovereigns. This includes golden peacock and Veena instrument. In addition, silver lamps are being offered to Goddess Sharada.
Acharya Math Sri Sharada Mahotsava Samiti has decided to donate silver Airavata (elephant) to Sri Venkataramana Swamy.
