Panaji, Apr 21: Congress member of parliament shantaram Naik has claimed that Union Information and Broadcasting minister Ambika Soni is dissatisfied over the adamant attitude adopted by the makers' of Dum Maro Dum movie.
Soni expressed her dissatisfaction over the stand of the producers/exhibitors to retain dialogues in the prints meant for overseas distribution and said that, in the present situation, seeking redress from the court after the release of the film abroad, is the
only solution remaining, in order to protect the dignity of women,” Naik said at a press statement issued here.
Naik stated that he met soni along with Chief minister Digambar Kamat on the issue in Delhi. The MP said that I& B ministry was seeking to amend the section 6 of the Cinematograph Act 1952 soon, which would “empower it to intervene in public interest”.
Rohan Sippy’s Dum Maro Dum movie has generated much criticism in the state for reportedly potraying goan women in wrong light. Fox Star Studios International Private Limited (FSSIPL) has said that they have suitably changed the controversial dialogue in the movie.
Naik had claimed that the filmmaker was anti national has he had retained the dialogue in his international prints.
Incidently, Naik’s wife, Beena is on the state government committee which was given a mandate to watch the film before its release and give its opinion. Committee’s opinion was sought to ascertain whether the movie portrays Goa in a wrong light.
The committee headed by state Information Secretary has outrightly refused to watch the film.
