Munnar, Sep 11: A youth of Tamil Nadu origin was arrested in Idukki of Kerala on the accusation of trying to extort money by getting a cat painted as tiger cub.
Parthiban (24), a resident of Tiruvannamala Arani, border village of Tamil Nadu is the accused arrested by police.
Parthiban sent messages on Whatsapp that he has three tiger cubs that are three months old for sale. He demanded Rs 25 lac per cub and said that he will deliver the same to the home of the buyers. He also put the picture of feeding the tiger cubs in a steel bowl.
The Forest department came to know of the matter. Parthiban, who received information regarding the forest officials searching for him, went underground. Forest officials searched his house and did not find any tiger cubs. Later he was traced and arrested with the help of local police.
It is said that Partiban’s friend from Ambattur gave the photos of tiger cubs. The accused, in his confession, to police said that they wanted to sell kittens as tiger cubs after getting them painted. Forest officials and police are probing further to know the involvement of other people in this crime.
