Udupi, Sep 10: With regards to the Bharath Jodo yatra of Congress, energy minister Sunil Kumar said, “How those who have broken the country will join it? They do not have any morality. There is no Congress party in the country. First do the work of Congress Jodo (join Congress).
“In South, Congress Jodo is in progress. In the north, senior leaders are deserting the party. When Congress yatra will finish in south and reach north, the party will not be there. A situation may arise of taking foot march alone. As the yatra crosses Madhya Pradesh, a strange situation might arise. Shorten the foot march and save Congress,” he said.
Responding to a query on investigation of former energy minister D K Shivakumar, Sunil said, “I have not challenged DKS. He only challenged. I did not initiate this discussion. I have said that I will take the challenge thrown by DKS. I will clarify the type of investigation against DKS in coming days. When investigation is carried out at the government level, all will come to know. Wait and watch.”
Answering on the issue of Narayana Guru Jayanti in Dakshina Kannada, Sunil said, “The government had decided six months ago to celebrate the birthdays of great leaders. No celebration should centre only on Bengaluru. Our aim is to make every district as centre. Great leaders should not be limited to one community. Every community has to celebrate one Jayanti. So far great leaders were made limited to one community. The ideals of these leaders were limited to one system. The government aims to hold state level programmes in every district.”
When quizzed on the flood situation in Bengaluru, Sunil said, “Flood occurred due to unexpected rains. Officials of meteorology department said that this kind of rain occurred after 200 years. If rain lashes heavily, there will be floods. People opine that flood should be managed in a proper manner. We respect the feelings of the public. The state government has not sit idle. As many as 1,500 electricity poles are set right within 48 hours. All departments have worked at a good pace. Flood in Bengaluru has attracted nationwide attention. All of us have to bow in front of nature. We are aware of the precaution that needs to be taken in future.”
Replying on the central study team tour of coastal district for rain damage assessment, the minister said, “Four teams have surveyed the flood and rain damage in coastal districts. This is the first time that flood study is done so quickly. The central team has arrived quickly on the request of the state government. They are conducting survey on damage to fundamental infrastructure and crop loss. The teams will give report after survey. More grant will be provided by the central government.”
With regards to Janaspandana programme at Doddaballapura, he said, “We are holding Janaspandana limited to three districts. We will extend this throughout the state.”
