Karkala, Apr 20: Relating to the murder of Shekhar Poojary (46) at Hosmar of Edu village in the taluk on the night of Saturday April 16, the policemen arrested Geeta, wife of the deceased, who is a teacher in a private school besides being a gram panchayat member, and her paramour, Satish Shetty from Valpady near Moodbidri, on Tuesday April 19. Another accomplice, Yogaraj (22) from Nellikar has gone missing.
Geeta was taken into custody from her home, whereas Satish Shetty was nabbed from Moodbidri bus stand while he was trying to flee. The arrests were made by rural sub inspector, Azmat Ali, and other personnel.
Geeta is accused of masterminding the murder of her husband with the help of Satish and Yogaraj, both working as loaders. Geeta was peeved over her husband’s objections to her affair with Satish Shetty. It is said that Shetty stayed with her in hotels, and visited her at home when her husband was away. Sensing that the two were very close to each other, Shekhar Poojary had warned Geeta against maintaining close proximity with Shetty.
The policemen have got information that Satish and Yogaraj lurked in the dark, waiting for the arrival of Shekhar, knowing fully well that Geeta and her children had gone to Bajpe as per a plan previously conceived. As soon as Shekhar came home, Satish held his hands firmly, and Yogaraj smothered him. As Shekhar struggled to get himself released, both of him pressed his neck hard, and after he died, hung him with the help of a rope, to a ceiling fan in the house. During the scuffle, Shekhar had fallen down and writhed in pain, due which injuries had been inflicted on his body by sharp stones on the ground. These injuries had given rise to suspicion in the minds of the policemen that it was not a case of suicide.
The accused were remanded to judicial custody on being produced in the court. Circle inspector of police, Putteswamy Gowda, is investigating.
