Karkala, Apr 20: “Bangalore-based Patrakartara Vedike will confer the Rajesh Shibaje Award on U S Shenoy, editor, ‘Kundaprabha’, Kannada weekly, published from Kundapur in Udupi district,” stated Shekar Ajekar, district president, Patrakartara Vedike.
“A new era of print media was created by Shenoy by starting Kundaprabha 20 years ago to address the social issues in Kundapur taluk,” he said. The award will be conferred on U S Shenoy during a function scheduled to be held at Tenkanidiyoor Government First Grade College auditorium, Udupi, on Monday April 25 in the presence of principal Professor G Yoganand and other dignitaries.
About U S Shenoy
He had completed his early studies from Gangolli Saraswati Vidyalaya and degree from Bhandarkar’s College, Kundapur. He began his journalism career working as a reporter with ‘Navabharata’ Kannada daily in 1980 and was freelancing for Kannada dailies ‘Hosadiganta’ and ‘Mungaru Maruta’, English dailies ‘Indian Express’, ‘Times of India’, and ‘Canara Times’, till 1991, when he started Kundaprabha.
He instituted the ‘Ko Ma Karant Award’, to be conferred on youth achievers in recognition of their extraordinary talent. He has been organizing the ‘Panchagangavali Utsav’, a 20-day annual celebration to popularize backwater boating and explore tourist potentials in the taluk.
He is serving as vice-president of Kundapur taluk Working Journalists Association, secretary of Udupi district Working Journalists’ Association, president of Kundapur Jaycees, president of Kundapur Rotary Club, secretary of Bhandarkar’s College Alumni Association, member of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, and president of Kundaprabha Trust.
