Mangalore, Apr 18: A complaint filed with the rural police station here has accused activists of an organization of trespassing of the house belonging to a Catholic family living in Bajjodi, assaulting the family members, and vandalizing the place on Sunday April 17.
Reportedly, Angelina Norohna, wife of Augustine Norohna, whose house was targeted by the crowd, fell unconscious. Augustine ran to safety with children and complained to the policemen, after drawing help from P B D’Sa of PUCL.
“A gang of over 50 people that included Mahesh and Santosh, said to be Bajrang Dal activists, and some women, entered my home on Sunday morning. They pulled at the hair of my wife. She fell unconscious. As I feared that I and my children will also be assaulted, I went to the house of P B D’Sa, for whom I work, and narrated what had happened. As advised by him, I also filed police complaint,” Augustine said.
He said that the gang was angry at his wife because of the fact that he had complained to the policemen about the fact that she had been assaulted by a crowd while bringing water from a public tap.
D’Sa said that he has informed city police commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, about the said assault. He informed that the policemen visited the spot and inquired about the incident thereafter. He demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits involved, to ensure that people entering houses and creating terror are discouraged from doing so.
