Beltangady, Apr 18: Relating to a recent order purported to have been issued by Dakshina Kannada District Wakf Board to hold a single Uroos for both the Jamaats of Kajoor Dargah and Killoor, two factions fought with each other on Sunday April 17 evening.

Relating to the Uroos, which was held jointly in the past till Kajoor Jamaat decided to hold its Uroos separately a few years ago, these two Jamaats have a long-standing dispute. Even though one of the factions insisted that the Uroos should be organized jointly as per the recent instructions of the district Wakf Board, the other faction went ahead with its preparations for organizing separate Uroos.

On Sunday evening, District Wakf Committee and Minorities Commission president, Anwar Manippady, placed a proposal for holding joint Uroos in Kajoor Jamaat, before the congregation at Kajoor. One of the factions opposed the proposal, and refused to heed to the requests made by senior members of the Jamaat. After some verbal skirmishes, a couple of persons pelted stones at the crowd. The policemen resorted to caning to bring the situation under control.

Four persons, Zakir (20), Mittabagil Ummer (35), Miaz (20), and Abdul Hamid (49) were injured in fighting and stone pelting incidents. All of them were admitted into the government hospital here. The injured have filed complaint against 11 persons. As a precautionary measure, the policemen have intensified security measures and patrolling in the area.
