Karkala, Apr 18: Allegedly, Shekhar Poojary (45), a resident of Hosmar and tailor by profession, was murdered by Satish, at the residence of the former at Hosmar, Edu village, on Saturday April 16 night. It is said that Geeta (35), wife of Shekhar Poojary, was the brain behind this dastardly act. Satish was alone at his home at the time, as Geeta and her children were on a visit to a relative’s house in Bajpe. Satish has gone missing.
The lifeless body of Shekhar Poojary was found hanging in his house from a noose on Sunday morning. During routine check, fresh scratch marks were found on his body. This made people to suspect that it was not a case of suicide. Geeta’s mother, who lives in the neighbourhood, came to lay out fodder for the cattle at her daughter’s cattle shed, when she found the body of her son-in-law hanging from the roof.
Geeta, who works as a teacher in a school in Hosmar, also is a member of the local gram panchayat. Shekhar, a native of Moodbidri, works as a tailor in a tailoring shop in Kadandale. After marrying Geeta about 15 years ago, he had started staying with her. The couple have a 13-year-old daughter, and a nine-year-old son.
Satish, a sand loading labourer from Moodbidri, got to know Geeta on account of a missed call that was made four years ago, Geeta told the policemen. This introduction soon grew into friendship and when the fact that they were courting each other came to Shekhar’s notice, he objected. The couple then decided to eliminate Shekhar, who was a stumbling block in their extra marital affair. Reportedly, Geeta confessed to the policemen that she visited Bajpe with children on Saturday morning, as part of the pre-conceived plan that was hatched in connivance with Satish to kill her husband.
District superintendent of police (SP), Dr Ravikumar, additional SP, Venkateshappa, Karkala deputy SP, Santosh Kumar, circle inspector, Putteswamy Gowda and other police personnel visited the spot and conducted inspection.
A case was registered in Karkala rural police station. Sub-inspector, Azmat Ali, has taken up investigation.
