The Ganapathi temple on a hill at Kundapur is at Kodladi in the taluk on the highest plain at a height of about 1000 metres from ground level. Ganesha festival was celebrated here on Wednesday with pomp and gaiety.
The Ganapathi idol that is believed to be formed through a well with a diameter of 12 inches by the meditation and prayers of holy men is stationed here. The deity was called Bayalu (plains) Ganapathieventually.
It is said that the deity did not want a roof for it. Therefore, religious programmes are held here in the open under the leadership of businessman Subhaschandra Shetty. Devotees from other districts also arrive for the rituals.
