M'lore/Udupi: Coast Witnesses Thunderous Rain - No Reprieve from Summer Heat

Mangalore/Udupi, Apr 17: The people of undivided Dakshina Kannada district had to face the wrath of summer heat on Friday April 15 night as the electricity supply was severed following heavy but rains coupled with thunder and lightning for a short period.

In Mangalore taluk, Mangalore city, Bajpe, Suratkal received plenty rains and in many of these places there were no electricity suply until about 11.00 am on Saturday April 16. In other parts of district like Beltangady taluk received rains for over two-hours on Friday night. It was the same in rural areas such as Sullia, Bellare and Subrahmanya. However, in Bantwal taluk there was heavy rains with lightning taking away lives.

On Saturday, it was cloudy in places such as Beltangady, Subrahmanya and Sullia.

The arecanut and cashewnut planters have been hit hard by the untimely rains. It has also affected the prices of the cashewnut crop.

Sudden Rains Zap Udupi District

The sudden heavy rains have zapped the district.

Many places in Udupi and Karkala taluk have received heavy rainsfall. Udupi, Manipal, Petri, Brahmavar, Kaup, Shirva, Ajekar and Sastan among others witnessed heavy rains coupled with thunder and lightning.

Saligrama just witnessed thunder. As expected electricity supply was terminated in most places in the district.
