Over 165 mn people joined global creator economy in last 2 years: Report

San Francisco, Aug 26 (IANS): The creator economy grew by more than 165 million creators over the past two years to reach 303 million globally, a new report has shown.

The creator economy grew in the US by 34 million new creators, Brazil (73 million), South Korea (11 million) and Spain (10 million), according to Adobe's ‘Future of Creativity' report.

"One in four people are creators contributing photography, videography, creative writing and more to online spaces including social media platforms and blogs," the report mentioned.

Millennials now represent 42 per cent of the creator economy and Gen Z represents 14 per cent.

Nearly 48 per cent of creators are universally motivated by the same goal: freedom of expression, while less than one-third of creators are motivated by money.

Influencers make up only 14 per cent of the global creator economy, the findings showed.

"Individuals, soloprenuers, small business owners and content creators can now express themselves and explore creative and artistic pursuits in new ways," said Scott Belsky, chief product officer and executive vice president, Adobe Creative Cloud.

"Increasingly, creators from all walks of life are turning their creative inspirations and passions into new careers and businesses supported by Adobe's creative tools," he added.

While 17 per cent of creators are business owners, 39 per cent aspire to become a business owner one day.

For the majority of creators, creating is a hobby or side hustle while six in 10 creators have full-time jobs, the report said.

Food and housing security, social justice and climate change top the list of causes most important to creators around the globe.

Most creators (69 per cent) and influencers (84 per cent) said creating and sharing online content is a creative outlet they can't find elsewhere, the report added.
