Beltangady, Apr 15: Relating to drilling a hole in the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd’s underground pipeline carrying petroleum products from Mangalore to Bangalore at Kattadabail in Odilnala village, and siphoning of oil from there, three more persons have been arrested by the policemen. With this, the number of arrested men in connection with the oil theft has risen to seven.
The newly arrested people are Sharat Rai and Chandrashekhar from Madenad near Madikeri, and Vasu Poojary, a resident of Bykampady in Mangalore. Sharat Rai and Vasu Poojary were remanded to judicial custody, while the other accused, Chandrashekhar, was remanded to police custody till April 17.
Monappa Poojary, Sumit, Navin Poojary and Santosh Poojary, residents of Kattadabail, who were arrested in the past, are also in judicial custody at present.
It is learnt that the policemen have sought custody of Prakash, working for Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, who is already in jail in connection with oil theft at Parenki in the past, for interrogation.
