Bangalore, Apr 15: The postgraduate CET counselling imbroglio, against which students and their parents had protested, ended with the interference of the government officials. Comed-K finally agreed to abide by the government directive on seat sharing formula.
The postgraduate counselling for medical seats under Comed-K had begun on Tuesday, but students and their parents, noticing that seats had been blocked in certain colleges, resorted to flash protest, supported by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. The counselling had been suspended thereafter.
On Thursday morning, some north India-based students and agents, who were indulging in seat blocking, were found and handed over to the policemen. This gave rise to commotion in NMKRV College hall, where the counselling was in progress. The students and parents were exasperated on finding seat blocking agents on Thursday, as against the assurance made by Comed-K secretary, S Kumar, at a press conference on Wednesday, to hold counselling in a transparent manner.
The Comed-K officials, who faced the problem of convincing the students and parents, then contacted I M Vittal Murthy, principal secretary in the department of medical education. Murthy advised them to allot seats to eligible students as per rules and agreed norms. Under the instructions of Murthy, director in the medical education department, Dr Aruna, visited the spot and inspected the proceedings. She found that agreement entered into by Comed-K with the government was being violated. She instructed the concerned to properly distribute 42 percent of seats, and publish availability of seats in advance in its website.
At around 4.15 pm, the counselling process began and continued smoothly.
