Panaji, Apr 15: It's an irony that while while entire state and even chief minister Digambar Kamat is apprehensive about Rohan Sippy’s movie Dum Maro Dum, state Home Minister Ravi Naik is eager to watch the movie and not to ban it.
“I will watch the movie along with Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava,” Naik said.
The Home Minister, who has been at the receiving end because of the fostering drug trade in the state, said that `he will like to watch the movie once it is released.’ Naik was talking to reporters on the sidelines of National Fire Service Day in the capital city.
“I will surely go for the movie,” Naik said refusing to comment straight on the controversy. Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava, who was sitting next to Naik, also nodded his head, rejecting to speak on the issue.
The Home Minister said that he is yet to even see the trailers of the movie, which are already shown on the small screen.
Dum Maro Dum has hit the controversy in the state after its promos reportedly spoke of Drugs, Sex and Rave parties in Goa. A case has been filed in the Bombay High court at Goa and several women’s organizations have objected to the wrong portrayal of Goan women in the movie.
The producers and distributors of the movie has said that `whatever they have shown in the movie is just a fraction of what has been reported about Goa.’
Naik was hanging fire after string of sting operations exposing the deadly policemen-drug mafia nexus. Swedish model Lucky Farmhouse and a British mother Fiona Mackeown, had named Naik’s son, Roy as being allegedly involved in the drug trade.
Naik’s stand comes in contradiction to the views expressed by the chief minister, who has expressed fear that the movie might portray Goa in wrong light. Kamat has written to union I&B ministry seeking their intervention in the matter.
The state has already formed a high level committee, which will see the movie before its theatrical release.
