Panaji, Apr 13: The producers and distributors of Dum Maro Dum movie today claimed that the petition in the High Court against them was to harass them just prior to the release of the film.

“The petitioners have deliberately approached the court at the last moment even though press reports about the film have been prevalent for many weeks,” the affidavit sworn in by Dina Duttani of Fox Star Studios India Private Limited (FSSIPL), reads.

The affidavit filed before the Bombay High court at Goa further alleges that the petition appears to be an attempt to harass the respondents just prior to the release of the film.

Goa-based media professional Savio Rodrigues has filed a public interest litigation before the High Court pleading to ban the movie alleging that it portrays wrong image about the tourist state.

The case was heard today by ivision bench comprising Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice S C Dharmadhikari, who saw the promos of the movie starring Abhishekh Bachchan, Dipika Padakone and Bipasha Basu.

Duttani has said that the film is fictitious story about a drug mafia in Goa and its links with various foreign elements. “The story is essentially about how a minister in Goa directs an honest police officer to eradicate the drug mafia,” she said.

Narrating the movie plot further, Duttani has said that the police officer, along with other policemen, takes the help of people in Goa to fight against the drug mafia.

She has claimed that media has widely covered various issues related to drug-related offences, murders and sexual crimes in Goa. “The film deals with only a couple of these issues that have been widely reported,” the FSSIPL said.

Duttani stated that it is unclear why the film has been singled out by the petitioners even though the story of the film is about the victory of good over the criminal elements.

The FSSIPL has also agreed to have a private screening of the movie to the bench, before it is released, if court wishes.
