Mangaluru, Aug 20: The ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ celebrates the inclusion of Konkani as an official language in the Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution. They day was celebrated at World Konkani Centre on Saturday August 20.
President of KCCI Shashidhar Pai Maroor unveiled the portrait of B N Rau, H V Kamath, U S Mallya, Fr Jerome D’Souza and B S Rau, the Konkani stalwarts who contributed to the framing of the Constitution of India.
Addressing the gathering, Shashidhar Pai Maroor said, “The facilities provided at World Konkani Centre, in terms of infrastructure and scholarships for education purpose, has contributed vastly for Konkani language. Such achievements are a huge boost to the Konkani language and community.”
Konkani movement leader Dr Mohan Pai said, “Konkani is an independent language with an independent script. Many scholars, thinkers and politicians recommended Konkani and secured its current status. Konkani is a language of a small state Goa. Now it is 30 years since its recognition. We need to have a strong vision to develop Konkani language and strive hard for the upliftment of the same in near future.”
Director of Fathima Retreat House Fr Anil D’Mello and director of Mensa International Narayana Pai were also present.
President of World Konkani Centre Nandagopal Shenoy welcomed the gathering, CEO of World Konkani Centre Gurudath Bantwalkar compered the event.
