Bangalore, Apr 12: With getting land in the city for distribution of housing sites becoming an impossible task in view of the huge costs involved, Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) has decided to go vertical and build a 14-floor massive housing complex in Kengeri, in the city outskirts.
KHB will be building the massive housing complex in a 14-acre plot, which would be provided with all the necessary amenities, Hosuing Minister V Somanna said.
Addressing a news conference in Bangalore on Tuesday, the minister said about 750 flats would be constructed in the complex.
Tenders would be invited soon for taking up construction work of the mega building.
A shopping mall too would be developed near the complex for the benefits of residents, he said.
The minister said flats would be sold based on a per sq.ft. rate, which could be more than Rs 2700 per sq.ft.
A decision has also been taken to demolish existing houses of pourakarmikas located in front of the Vijayanagara Club, in the city.
The Housing Board would construct 95 new houses for them by spending Rs 16 crore, he said.
The Minister, who held a meeting with Board officials, said a decision has been taken to acquire 6,000 acres around Bangalore city for developing housing sites and complexes.
About 2,000 acres near Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), Devanahalli, and 1090 acres at Big Banyan Tree, and 312 acres at Tavarakere would be acquired for developing sites and houses, he said.
The Housing Board would construct 290 houses at Bandemata near Kengeri and existing houses constructed there would be given basic amenities.
A shopping complex would be constructed on three aces at Yelahanka, he said.
Answering questions from reporters, he said houses would be constructed in districts based on demand. Compensation would be given to landholders based on the market price.
