Beltangady, Apr 11: The community development division of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) has extended financial assistance of Rs 5 crore out of the Rs 24 crore worth of development programmes that are undertaken across the state in the financial year 2010 – 11.
The financial assistance of Rs 19.96 lac was extended to construct 196 classrooms under rural welfare project, contributed for buildings of 65 milk producers’ co-operative societies, provided 38 milco testers, 125 weighing scales, and financial assistance of a total of Rs 56.74 lac in order to supply necessary storage facilities for 67 milk procuring sub-centres. For constructing community buildings, youth clubs, women’s clubs, public toilets etc – Rs 26.99 lac was advanced.
Under Jnanadeepa school education programme 6,283 pairs of desks and benches worth Rs 1.81 crore was provided to 1,048 schools which would provide comfortable seating arrangements to 19,500 students. It has given due significance to develop infrastructural facilities at many schools. The volunteers were provided to 350 government schools that face the shortage of teachers, while 351 school dropouts rejoined in various schools by the door-to-door visits to 6.361 houses. Special emphasis was laid to improve the living condition of people residing in remote villages by employing 150 volunteers who empower the people living in these colonies socially and economically.
Under Navachetana programme, financial assistance of Rs 5 lac was provided to 4 schools to develop their essential facilities. In order to improve Hindu crematorium, financial assistance of Rs 17.65 lac was extended to develop 15 crematoriums. The concept of Hindu crematorium gets its due importance across the state.
Scholarships worth Rs 1.65 crore was awarded to 3,980 students in order to pursue technical and professional courses under Sujnana scholarships programme that has been a boon to rural students to excel in studies.
The compensation worth Rs 4.19 lac was awarded to farmers whose crops were destroyed due to natural calamities.
The community development programmes are being undertaken at the direction of SKDRDP chairman Dr D Veerendra Heggade since the past 22 years, while it has contributed financial assistance of Rs 31 crore out of the total Rs 150 crore worth of 12,664 works, stated the press release issued by SKDRDP.
