Belgaum, Apr 11: Local member of parliament, Suresh Angadi, squarely blamed state minister for primary and secondary education, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, for the impasse over the pay revision of pre university college lecturers. “The education minister is not responding to the demands of these lecturers, with the specific aim of spoiling the image of the Chief Minister,” he commented.

He was addressing the pre university lecturers, who had organized a protest after boycotting valuation work of the recently concluded pre university examination answer sheets, at Lingaraj College ground on Sunday April 10. “I have full sympathy and support for your agitation. I will discuss the issues with the Chief Minister and education minister. At the same time, I request you to resume valuation work, in the interests of the students,” he said.

When the lecturers expressed themselves against his request to resume valuation work, Angadi said that he had advised them to conduct valuation work, with the aim of seeing them behave like model teachers. “Requesting you to do it is in my hands. I leave the matter of accepting it or not, to your discretion,” he announced.  He also suggested them to conduct valuation work by wearing black clothes. The lecturers said they had tried this method earlier, but had got only promises in return. They shouted slogans that they would not resume answer sheets valuation work till their demands are met.
